Role Summary

The QA Engineer — App + Physical Product is the quality gate before anything ships to Lifepro users. This is a hybrid role — equally responsible for validating the Lifepro mobile application and the connected physical fitness devices. The person must be as comfortable running structured functional tests on a physical vibration plate as they are writing automated test procedures for app builds.

AI-assisted testing is a core expectation. The QA Engineer is expected to use AI tools to generate, expand, and validate test cases — not just execute manually written test plans — while remaining accountable for the quality of every test that ships.

What You’ll Do

App Testing

• Execute functional test cases on Lifepro mobile app builds (iOS and Android) — covering device pairing, control flows, data display, edge cases, and regression
• Validate Tuya-based device pairing flows across network configurations, device types, and OS versions
• Maintain a living test suite organized by feature area — app UI, device pairing, device control, data sync, OTA updates, and edge/failure scenarios
• Participate in sprint reviews to validate that acceptance criteria have been met before a feature is marked done

Physical Product Testing

• Receive physical product samples (vibration plates, massage devices, accessories) shipped from Lifepro or factory partners
• Execute hardware-level test procedures: power cycle testing, BLE pairing stability, control responsiveness, motor behavior validation, and OTA firmware update verification
• Document hardware defects separately from software defects, referencing the relevant product spec or QA checklist
• Coordinate with the Technical PM to communicate factory-side issues to the appropriate vendor contact

AI-Assisted Testing & Automation

• Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or equivalent) to generate comprehensive test case matrices from user stories, PRDs, and acceptance criteria
• Design and maintain automation scripts using Maestro, Appium, Detox, or a comparable mobile test automation framework
• Evaluate and iterate on AI-generated test output — the QA Engineer is responsible for the quality of tests, not just their quantity

Who You Are

• You have 3+ years of mobile QA experience across iOS and Android, with structured test case design and execution
• You have experience testing IoT or Bluetooth-connected hardware products alongside their companion apps
• You are methodical and detail-oriented — you find the edge case everyone else missed
• You are equally comfortable with software testing and physical hardware validation
• You use AI tools to generate test cases and then apply your own judgment to validate them
• You write bug reports developers can act on immediately — clear, reproducible, and complete
• You are familiar with mobile test automation frameworks (Maestro, Appium, Detox, XCTest, Espresso, or equivalent)
• You have a basic understanding of BLE connectivity, WiFi provisioning, and IoT device behavior
• Nice to have: Tuya-based product testing, ATP (Acceptance Test Protocol) documentation, CI/CD for mobile (Bitrise, Fastlane, GitHub Actions), and fitness/consumer health product QA

Success Metrics

• Zero critical defects reaching production that were not caught in QA
• Test suite covers 100% of sprint acceptance criteria within 90 days of hire
• Bug reports actioned by developers within agreed SLAs — no stale reports older than 5 business days without status update
• Physical device test procedures documented and executed for every new hardware sample received

Cross-Functional Relationships

• Technical PM — IoT: Blocker escalation, build availability coordination, vendor-side defect communication
• Mobile Developers (iOS & Android): Build artifacts, debug logs, defect triage, and bug resolution within sprint
• UX/UI Designer: Shared bug tracking, severity tagging, and UX test criteria with visual benchmarks
• Factory & Tuya Partners: Hardware sample receipt, ATP execution, and feedback on firmware and pairing behavior (via Technical PM)
• Product Development Leadership: Release readiness sign-off and quarterly regression / test protocol review

Accountability & Rhythm

Daily

• Execute active test cases on the current sprint build
• File bug reports with reproduction steps and severity
• Flag blockers to the Technical PM

Weekly

• Participate in sprint reviews and validate acceptance criteria
• Coordinate test cycle scheduling with the Technical PM
• Run regression sweeps on critical flows

Monthly

• Review and refactor the living test suite
• Produce an automation coverage report
• Run a QA retrospective

Quarterly

• Execute a full regression run across app and hardware
• Review AI tooling, prompts, and AI-generated test quality
• Update hardware test protocols and ATP documentation
