QC Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Control Engineer to oversee the quality assurance activities in our steel fabrication facility. The ideal candidate will ensure that all fabricated items, welding works, material handling, and finishing processes meet project specifications, applicable standards, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect raw material, structural steel components, fabricated assemblies, and final products before delivery.
• Prepare and implement Quality Control procedures, ITPs, WPS/PQR, Method Statements, and other quality documents.
• Conduct visual inspections of welds, review NDT reports, and verify compliance with codes & project requirements.
• Ensure full material traceability including MTCs, heat numbers, weld logs, and inspection records.
• Monitor production and welding activities on shop floor to ensure conformance with drawings & specifications.
• Review fabrication drawings, nestings, cutting lists, and verify dimensions/tolerances.
• Conduct fit-up, welding, and final inspection for structural steel beams, columns, platforms, tanks, frames, brackets, handrails, skids, etc.
• Prepare NCRs, CARs, inspection reports, QA/QC documentation, weld maps & daily fabrication reports.
• Coordinate with Production, Design, Procurement and Project teams to resolve quality-related issues promptly.
• Attend client, consultant, and third-party inspections as required.
• Ensure all measuring instruments & equipment are calibrated and maintained.
• Promote continuous improvement, safety and quality culture across operations.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of fabrication processes: cutting, drilling, welding, grinding, painting, assembly.
• Knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, MIG/MAG, SAW) and welding defects.
• Ability to interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, BOM & welding symbols.
• Knowledge of international standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME codes, ISO standards.
• Good command in QC reporting, documentation and inspection checklists.
• Strong communication, analytical & problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–7 years experience in QC within a steel fabrication environment (mandatory).
• CSWIP/AWS Welding Inspector certification preferred.
• Familiarity with NDT methods (MT/PT/UT/RT) will be an advantage.
