QC WELDING INSPECTOR

Job description

Job Summary: As a Quality Control Inspector – Welding in an oil & gas piping company, you will play a critical role in ensuring that welding activities meet the highest quality and safety standards. You will be responsible for inspecting and evaluating welding procedures, conducting non-destructive testing (NDT), and maintaining detailed records of welding activities. Your technical expertise and attention to detail will be essential in ensuring the integrity of welded structures and piping systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Good Knowledge in Excel
  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of welding activities, including root, filler, and cap passes, to ensure compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
  • Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welding Procedure Qualification (WPQ) documents.
  • Perform various Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques such as ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT) to assess weld quality.
  • Evaluate welder qualifications and oversee performance qualification tests to ensure welders are certified according to project requirements.
  • Monitor pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld operations, including material verification, joint preparation, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT).
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards during welding operations, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe welding practices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues related to welding and piping.
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities, inspection results, and NDT reports for project documentation. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address welding defects and improve welding quality.
  • Stay updated with the latest welding technologies and industry standards to ensure the best practices are implemented.
  • Meetings: Participate in regular QA/QC meetings to discuss inspection results, quality issues, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Mechanical BE/Diploma with CSWIP-3.1/3.2, min 7-10 yrs exp in Oil & Gas Industry

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 - 10 years of experience in welding inspection within the oil and gas piping industry.
  • Certifications: CSWIP 3.2.1 (Certified Welding Inspector), API 570 (Pressure Equipment Inspector), and NDT Level II certifications in UT, RT, MT, and PT.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW), NDT techniques, and quality control principles.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings related to piping systems.
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with inspection and documentation software used in the oil and gas industry.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively report inspection findings and collaborate with project teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail to identify and address welding defects and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple inspection tasks and priorities.
