A QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) for a metal factory, involves developing, implementing, and maintaining an integrated management system to ensure compliance with quality standards (ISO 9001), health & safety regulations (ISO 45001/OSHA), and environmental laws (ISO 14001).

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy & System Management: Develop, implement, and maintain the company's QHSE management system, policies, and procedures in accordance with relevant international standards and local regulations.
  • Risk Assessment & Control: Conduct regular risk assessments and workplace inspections to identify potential hazards (e.g., related to welding, grinding, lifting operations, confined spaces, machinery) and develop preventative measures and safe systems of work.

Compliance & Auditing:

  • Ensure all operations meet legal, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external audits for ISO certification (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, local environmental authorities) during inspections and ensure timely filing of statutory returns.
  • Incident Management: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and maintain detailed records.
  • Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver QHSE training programs for employees and contractors to promote a strong safety culture and ensure correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Quality Control: Oversee QA/QC planning, inspection, and testing processes to ensure products meet required specifications, including managing equipment calibration and addressing non-conformities (NCRs).
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation (e.g., inspection reports, permits, training logs) and prepare regular performance reports for management review.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, etc.), environmental science, or a related field is typically required.
  • Certifications: Relevant professional certifications are often mandatory or highly beneficial, such as NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health)
  • Experience: Proven experience (2-3 years) in a QHSE role within a manufacturing, metal fabrication, or heavy industry environment.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (e.g., welding codes, OSHA regulations, machine safety).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to conduct effective audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
