QS CUM DRAFTMAN

A QS-cum-Draftsman is responsible for managing project costs, preparing bills of quantities, and simultaneously producing technical drawings and shop drawings required for interior fit-out execution. The role bridges cost control and technical documentation to ensure the project is completed efficiently, within budget, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cost Management (QS Duties)

Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for fit-out works (partitions, ceilings, flooring, furniture, MEP finishes).

Conduct quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.

Assist in tendering and procurement, including preparing BOQs, reviewing subcontractor quotations, and negotiating rates.

Track project expenditures, approve invoices, and manage variations or change orders.

Prepare monthly cost reports, forecasts, and final account statements.

2. Technical Drafting (Draftsman Duties)

Prepare 2D and 3D drawings for interior fit-out works, including partitions, ceilings, flooring, and furniture layouts.

Produce shop drawings for contractors and subcontractors to follow on-site.

Update drawings based on design changes or client feedback.

Ensure drawings comply with building codes, safety standards, and client specifications.

Assist site teams by providing clarifications on drawings and ensuring as-built accuracy.

3. Coordination and Reporting

Liaise between design team, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure alignment on cost, scope, and execution.

Maintain proper documentation of drawings, approvals, cost reports, and contractual correspondence.

Support problem-solving on-site for design or material issues.

4. Quality and Compliance

Ensure cost-effective and efficient execution while maintaining quality standards.

Verify that materials and work adhere to specifications in drawings and BOQs.

Assist in risk management related to cost overruns or technical discrepancies.

Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of fit-out construction processes and materials.

Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings (CAD/BIM).

Strong understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, and BOQs.

Good communication and coordination skills.

Attention to detail and problem-solving ability.

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Project Manager / Senior Engineer

Coordinates with: Site Foreman, Contractors, Designers, Engineers

Supervises: May supervise junior draftsmen or QS assistants
