Department Summary:

At the VCU Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, our mission is to foster transformative research, discovery, and innovation at Virginia Commonwealth University through service excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Quality Control Analyst will evaluate the Human Research Protection Programs (HRPP) effectiveness and develop quality improvement activities to continuously measure, assess, and improve program compliance with federal regulations, applicable state regulations, and institutional HRPP policies and practices to protect human research participants. The position focuses primarily on review and monitoring of the activities, policies, procedures, and records for the following groups:

  • IRB
  • HRPP education and outreach
  • HRPP staff
  • HRPP

Typical Duties

  • Provide one-on-one and group consultation
  • Communicate with the research community (IRB members, Investigators, support staff), facilitating timely information dissemination
  • Collaborate with colleagues on policies and procedures and communicate changes to the research community
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting audit, consulting, or special engagements of the HRPP under the direction of the assistant director.
  • Engagement planning responsibilities include gaining an understanding of the program or research review, evaluating risks and controls, developing objectives and engagement scope, and participating in the drafting of reports
  • Engagement coordination responsibilities include managing time and workload to meet established milestones and due dates, proofreading work for completeness and accuracy, and reporting any significant issues to the team lead that could cause completion delays
  • Support program goals to measure and improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the HRPP
  • Manage quarterly reviews to assess HRPP quality, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Act as a backup to assist the HRPP team with the reviews of study applications and workflow
  • Establish an Education Plan, execute the plan, and track progress across both campuses with our stakeholders and research community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to all levels of management
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and university regulations
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with department and client personnel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to maintain integrity, objectivity, independence, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field, Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and a Minimum of 5 years’ experience in related field.

Salary Range: 65,000 - 68,000
