We are looking to add two Quality Control Chemists to our team in Salisbury, NC.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY
- Follow all applicable Safety and Quality requirements
- Perform routine analysis of raw materials, in-process and finished products including daily checks by performing the following tests: titrations, FTIR, GC, HPLC, Color, viscometer, etc.
- Operate QC instrumentation in a safe and professional manner
- Notify QC leader of unusual product observations, or analytical results during analysis or sample handling to assure potential quality issues identified, reviewed and resolved prior to release of product.
- Perform calculations for batch adjustments
- Support achieving the sites’ SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) goals by:
- Working in accordance with all procedures, policies, and rules established by Innospec
- Attend all mandatory SHE training, maintaining an orderly and safe work area
- Participate in the Near Miss and Journey to Zero Harm Programs
- Perform tests in a lab environment using instrumentation and physical test methods.
- Follow setup procedures for laboratory equipment
- Follow work instructions for operation of laboratory equipment
- Understand and consistently apply all customer and company quality standards
- Follow all safety rules and regulations, including the use of appropriate PPE at all times
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
Required:
- 3+ years’ experience in a Quality Control laboratory setting is preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or related environment and AS in chemistry acceptable
- Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment (preferably GC/LC/FTIR) and techniques (titration, liquid-liquid partition)
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with spreadsheet programs
- Ability to work independently while adjusting to manufacturing priorities
- Ability to communicate and relate to employees at all levels of the company
- Basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
- Excellent reading and comprehension skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to follow work instructions and procedures
- Troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to multi-task
- Exceptional attendance and work ethic
Desired:
- Bachelor’s degree or AS in a science curriculum or chemistry
- 1-3 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing laboratory is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods during a 12-hour shift
- In addition to standing and walking, the frequent physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination, and feeling
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to laboratory equipment with moving parts and working with chemicals.
- Requires the usage of personal protective equipment which includes gloves, safety glasses, and may involve protective clothing at times
