Quality Control Lab Technician

**Position requires all three shifts worked rotating, 1st, 2nd and 3rd in 7 day spans**

Position Summary

The Quality Control Lab Technician (Melt Shop) plays a critical role in ensuring the production of high-quality steel by monitoring and verifying metal compositions throughout the melting process. This position is responsible for analyzing samples, validating chemical compositions, and making real-time recommendations to achieve required specifications for steel billets and finished rebar products.

This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn. Training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate a positive attitude and a strong foundation in quality control practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze molten steel samples to verify chemical composition and ensure compliance with product specifications
• Monitor melt shop processes to maintain consistent production of high-quality steel billets
• Interpret lab results and make informed recommendations on alloy and metal additions to achieve target grades
• Collaborate with furnace operators and production teams to adjust compositions in real time
• Ensure all steel meets internal quality standards and customer requirements before casting
• Maintain accurate records of test results, adjustments, and production data
• Identify deviations or inconsistencies and escalate concerns as needed
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
• Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and process efficiency

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Previous experience in quality control, manufacturing, or industrial environment preferred
• Basic understanding of metals, alloys, or steel production is a plus (training provided)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret data accurately
• Ability to make sound, timely decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Positive attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a high-temperature industrial environment
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
• Must be able to lift up to [insert weight, e.g., 25–50 lbs]
• Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times

Work Environment

• Industrial melt shop setting with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy equipment
• Shift work will be required, including days, evening, nights, and weekends
