A Quality and EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining systems that ensure products and operations meet quality standards while complying with environmental and safety regulations.
This role involves overseeing quality assurance processes, conducting audits, analyzing performance data, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The manager also ensures workplace safety by identifying hazards, enforcing safety policies, leading training programs and safety meetings, promoting a culture of health and environmental responsibility. Additionally, they coordinate with regulatory agencies, manage incident investigations, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
Core Responsibilities:
Quality Management
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) across all sites.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 9001 or equivalent), including oversight of audits, corrective actions, and management reviews.
- Partner with operations, engineering, and supply chain to drive product quality, process capability, and defect reduction.
- Establish and monitor key quality metrics (KPIs) related to customer complaints, nonconformances, cost of poor quality, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Oversee root cause analysis and corrective action processes related to internal defects, supplier quality issues, and customer complaints.
- Lead supplier quality expectations and performance management in partnership with sourcing and operations teams.
- Promote a culture of quality ownership and continuous improvement across the organization.
Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S)
- Coach and advise safety, human resources, and operations leaders to build and sustain a world-class safety culture.
- OSHA compliance. Maintaining OSHA injury and illness records (like OSHA 300, 300A and 301 logs).
- Preparing logs for annual posting (OSHA 300A summary). Submitting data electronically when required.
- Advise management on appropriate resolution and corrective actions related to employee safety concerns and incident investigations.
- Manage and oversee third-party compliance, audit, and safety training providers.
- Establish and drive an initiative-taking safety culture through continuous improvement tools such as safety committees, Gemba walks, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Kaizen events, and safety orientations.
- Maintain systems for reporting, investigating, tracking, and correcting safety incidents, near misses, and hazards; ensure root cause analysis and corrective action effectiveness.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EH&S policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, federal and international regulations (OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies).
- Establish long-term incident prevention strategies and cost control objectives, including reduction of workers’ compensation costs.
- Provide oversight and continuous improvement of the EH&S management system.
- Ensure appropriate emergency response equipment and preparedness programs are in place (AEDs, eyewash stations, CPR kits, emergency drills, etc.). PPE programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Certified Quality Manager (CQM).
- 5+ years of proven management experience in Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety.
ISO 9001, Quality Management Systems
ISO 14001/45001, Environmental and Safety Management Systems
- Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives.
- Safety program management, OSHA 30-hour training.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, both OSHA and EPA.
