One of our key engagements involves supporting the development of a major new facility in Southcentral North Carolina. Join our team and be part of impactful projects that shape the future of industrial innovation
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Project QC/QA Engineer will work in a fast-paced construction environment under the direction of the Construction Manager. The Project QC/QA Engineer will oversee quality aspects of electrical, mechanical, and structural installations, helping to ensure compliance with uptime, reliability, and safety standards and conformance to the project Quality Control plan. He/she will actively administer the overall QC plan, oversee subcontractors’ QC plans, and maintain all testing logs, documentation, and reports.
TYPE: 1099 Independent Contractor
START DATE: May, 2026, with the possibility of an earlier start
DURATION: 18-24 months with good chance of extension.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain and administer an effective quality control system and plan.
· Review contract documents, regulatory requirements, project specifications and testing protocols to understand the quality benchmarks for each trade.
· Facilitate preparatory and progress meetings to align quality objectives with construction activities and schedules.
· Interface with sub-contractors to manage quality-related risks and ensure compliance with the client’s QC program.
· Maintain a Material Status Log and a Testing Plan.
· Coordinate QC inspection personnel and sampling, as well as testing at off-site fabrication facilities, QC labs, and on-site operations.
· Schedule and oversee all necessary sub-contractor destructive and nondestructive testing (electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil).
· Ensure all method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and material certifications align with project specs and regulatory requirements.
· Forward submittals to the appropriate team member and follow-up to make sure that submittals are reviewed and approved on time.
· Conduct daily field inspections across all trades to verify that workmanship and materials meet approved submittals.
· Witness site acceptance tests, compiling results to ensure compliance with project standards and codes.
· Work with corporate & 3rd-party design engineers and others to help resolve quality-related technical issues on site.
· Verify that components are correctly installed, labeled, and ready for commissioning, catching issues like mis-wired conductors or missing grounding before energization.
· Produce and maintain detailed electronic daily reports, inspection logs, submittal registers, RFI logs, maintenance logs, and punch-lists.
· Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and track corrective actions through resolution.
· Archive all QA/QC documentation in accordance with client’s record-keeping requirements. · Standard working time is expected to average 50 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with some Saturday or Sunday hours during busier periods. Overtime pay will apply
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, electrical mechanical or related field, OR a 2-year associate’s degree with relevant field technical experience.
· Total of 8+ years in heavy industrial construction quality roles, with at least 3 years in a decision-making or supervisory capacity (defining, executing, or controlling QA/QC processes and plans).
· Hands-on experience on heavy industrial or large-scale projects (factories, power plants, petrochemical facilities, data centers, etc.), with emphasis on electrical installations.
· Demonstrated experience with large-scale Mission Critical (MC) projects, including hands-on involvement with high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems, is required to ensure safe and compliant inspections. Experience in solar installations does not sufficiently demonstrate the depth of knowledge or hands-on expertise needed for this level of electrical work.
Key MC QA/QC electrical inspection competencies: o Operating in high-pressure, zero-failure environments – Proven ability to perform under stringent uptime requirements where system reliability is paramount.
o Coordinating complex multi-trade activities – Skilled in managing interdisciplinary workflows with active owner involvement, ensuring seamless integration across electrical, mechanical, and commissioning teams.
o Executing daily LOTO procedures and live system inspections – Experienced in working with energized systems and phased commissioning tasks, maintaining strict safety and procedural compliance.
o Utilizing commissioning tracking systems – Demonstrated proficiency or adaptability in using CX platforms to manage issue resolution, verification processes, and closeout documentation. o Expertise in high-voltage and medium-voltage systems, including MV switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, PDUs, and emergency power systems
o Familiarity with redundancy and reliability protocols, including integrated systems testing (IST), load bank testing, and sequence of operations validation
o Advanced knowledge of code compliance standards such as NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and coordination with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
Important note: Candidates with general electrical experience, particularly those without direct exposure to mission critical data center environments, will not meet the specialized requirements of this role
· A high level of specialization in mission critical data center environments is required. Candidates with this background demonstrate a deep understanding of the technical complexities, operational standards, and performance expectations required to succeed in high-stakes, zero-failure settings.
· Prior hands-on working experience with CSA, CX process mapping, load bank equipment, substations, bus duct, cable bus, MV and LV projects.
· Proficiency in monitoring structural documentation such as weld mapping, bolt-up flange mapping, heat numbers, Mill Test Reports (MTRs) and all relevant test reports supporting data center construction.
· Knowledge of mechanical quality checks on HVAC systems, humidity sensors, and airflow management.
· Track record of developing and implementing site-specific QA/QC programs, managing inspection teams, and resolving non-conformances.
· Problem solving and conflict resolution to quickly address quality deviations.
· Detail-oriented mindset coupled with an ability to see the “big picture” of project delivery schedules. · Proficiency in reading/interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and codes (NEC, ACI, AWS, ASTM, API, ISO).
· Hands-on knowledge of inspection and testing methods (NDT, soil/concrete sampling, weld inspection, coating thickness).
· Familiarity with QA/QC software and document-control systems (Procore, Aconex, BIM 360). · Statistical process control and root-cause analysis capabilities.
· Professional certifications (such as CCQM, CWI, CQE, CCM, and OSHA) are strongly preferred but not required.
· Good physical health and mobility.
· Strong verbal and written English communication: drafting reports, NCRs, and presenting findings to stakeholders.
· Must be able to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team.
· Willingness to travel/relocate for future projects within the continental USA.
