The Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst serves as a patient and safety advocate while performing advanced data analysis, comprehensive patient care reviews, and performance improvement initiatives. This non-patient facing role requires strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, organization, and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple initiatives.
Working closely with the Director of Quality and Safety and the Chief Quality Officer, the Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst leads and supports performance improvement activities aimed at optimizing patient outcomes and proactively identifying patient safety risks. In the absence of the department manager, this role ensures continuity of departmental operations and provides operational support as needed.
The Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst collaborates across the healthcare system to support system-wide quality and performance improvement initiatives, coordinating and contributing to multiple interdisciplinary projects. This position integrates expert clinical knowledge of healthcare delivery systems with evidence-based quality improvement methodologies and tools to promote excellence in clinical outcomes at UC Davis Health.

The Department of Quality and Safety focuses on proactive risk identification, learning from safety events and near misses, and strengthening systems to prevent error and harm. Core high-reliability principles—including preoccupation with failure, sensitivity to operations, reluctance to simplify, commitment to resilience, and deference to expertise—are integrated into daily work, leadership practices, and performance improvement initiatives.
Key functions of the department include quality measurement and reporting, patient safety event management, root cause and system analysis, regulatory and accreditation readiness, performance improvement, and safety culture assessment.
