Suominen is looking to hire a Manager, Quality who is responsible to implement the quality strategy at the Bethune plant and reports to the Plant Director with a dotted line reporting responsibility to the Director, HSEQ.
The Manager, Quality will ensure the site achieves Suominen targets and has 100% compliance with all procedures, regulations and laws. The Manager, Quality will develop and implement the organization's quality standards and processes and manage a staff of quality control and/or quality assurance professionals and deal with complex quality management tasks that have a large impact on the organization's overall production quality, standards and certificates.
Main Accountabilities:
- Promote a strong safety and quality culture where both safety and quality are core values of everyone at Suominen. Ensure full compliance to all Safety and Quality related policies, procedures and practices. Ensure that core principles are being recognized as core principles are permanent and transcend priorities.
- Develop, implement and evaluate quality policies, procedures, and projects and develop resources to assist the operations and manufacturing function to be able to reach quality standards.
- Responsible for processes related to production quality and ISO implementation to e.g. local level. Responsible for ensuring that products meet customers' quality standards.
- Define the appropriate and adequate procedures and measures of control for production processes and conduct risk assessments of these processes.
- Lead implementation of new regulations, all audits and regulatory inspections and facilitate gap closings from these.
- Lead, control and develop work of the Quality personnel.
- Implement and ensure adherence to Operations Core Principles.
Some Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate quality training for employees to ensure all individuals have the required level of knowledge.
- Implement and ensure adherence to Operations Core Principles.
- Responsible for all aspects of supervision and direction of quality personnel, including; safe work practices, conformance to external standards, troubleshooting quality problems, and timely and accurate reporting of quality results, including certificates of analysis.
- Responsible for microbiology testing of product and process and is a resource to minimize risk of non-compliance to microbiology specifications and standards.
- Manages the Quality Management System consistent with Quality Policy and is the management quality representative site.
- Manages internal quality improvement systems, including the internal audit process and investigation of quality incidents.
- Manages third party audits including customers and external agencies, as well as customer surveys and quality system questionnaires.
- Staffing and organizing the department to meet budgetary performance.
- Has direct responsibility and accountability for Quality System Policies and Procedures for Inspection and Testing, Control of Testing, Measuring and Test Equipment, Inspection and Test Status, Control of Nonconforming Products, In-Process and Finished Product Release and Control and Incoming Raw Materials plant-wide
Formal Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 5-7+ years professional quality management experience in a manufacturing environment
Technical Skills and Personal Attributes
- Experience in coaching, counseling and personnel development.
- Statistical knowledge of quality and process control.
- Experience with facilitating and leading teams.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Mini Tab.
- Demonstrated competency with industry quality standards [e.g., INDA, ANSI, TAPPI and EDANA].
- Demonstrated competency with problem solving and process improvement techniques [e.g., Root Cause Analysis, analytical trouble shooting, process flow diagrams, control plans, mistake-proofing tools such as Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)].
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma training a plus.
- ASQ certification a plus (CQM, CQE, CQA, etc.).

- Ability to travel to customers, suppliers or other locations as needed.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work in 24/7 manufacturing environment
