Role Overview – Quantity Surveyor | Cost Management & Construction Procurement

We are seeking a motivated and expert Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team at SSE. In this dynamic role, you will deliver specialist expertise in cost planning, commercial management, and procurement across diverse infrastructure and building projects. Main Responsibilities – Quantity Surveying, Project Cost Control & Commercial Insight

• Provide comprehensive cost estimating, planning, and management from early concept through to project delivery and close-out.
• Prepare accurate bills of quantities, cost plans, and tender documentation in line with best industry practices and client objectives.
• Manage procurement processes, including preparation and evaluation of tenders, contract negotiation, and supplier selection.
• Monitor project expenditures, conduct value engineering reviews, and implement effective cost control measures throughout project lifecycles.
• Undertake rigorous analysis of cost data, market trends, and project risks to inform strategic commercial decisions.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to deliver solutions that are commercially robust and aligned with project goals.
• Administer contracts, ensure compliance with relevant standards (including NEC, JCT, and FIDIC), and support change management processes.
• Champion safety, sustainability, and quality by integrating environmental and ethical requirements into procurement and supply chain management.
• Maintain clear, detailed records and prepare financial reports, forecasts, and final accounts for projects of varying complexity.

What You Bring – Quantity Surveying Experience, Analytical Strength & Communication

• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a relevant construction-related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience in quantity surveying, cost management, or construction procurement, ideally in a consultancy environment.
• Proficient in digital measurement and cost management software (such as CostX, Cubit, CATO, or similar tools).
• Thorough understanding of UK construction contracts, procurement best practices, and commercial risk management.
• Excellent communication skills – able to present complex information clearly and collaborate effectively within diverse teams.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with a strong commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality outcomes.

• Membership of RICS, CIOB, or equivalent, or working towards professional accreditation is highly desirable.
