Quantity Surveyor / Planning Engineer

Doha, Qatar

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly capable Quantity Surveyor / Planning Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will oversee the cost, contract, and planning aspects of construction projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

As Planning Engineer:

  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules (using tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar).
  • Coordinate with design, procurement, construction, and site teams to ensure alignment with schedule milestones.
  • Monitor project progress; identify delays, risks, and propose corrective actions.
  • Assist with resource planning (materials, manpower, equipment) to support timely execution.
  • Prepare progress reports, highlight schedule variances, forecasts, and updated timelines.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure schedule expectations are understood and met.

As Quantity Surveyor:

  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, bills of quantities (BOQs) for materials, labor, subcontractors, etc.
  • Conduct value engineering and cost optimization throughout project lifecycle.
  • Monitor cost performance: track and report cost vs budget, cash flow forecasts, cost/value reconciliation.
  • Evaluate tenders and proposals; negotiate with contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage contract documentation: variations, claims, final accounts, etc.
  • Certify payments, maintain payment schedules and variation logs.
  • Risk assessment related to cost and contractual obligations.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Experience: Typically 5-7 years (or more, depending on seniority) in similar role(s) in construction ( MEP, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of contracts & procurement, standard forms of contract, local construction regulations and practices.
  • Proficiency in planning / scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
  • Proficiency in cost / quantity take-off and estimating tools/software.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to coordinate across multiple teams.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with risk management, and ability to foresee and mitigate cost/schedule risks.
