Job Overview
The Project Manager provides oversight and is responsible for all phases of various R&D development and robotic automation projects, including coordinating team members, material, and equipment. The Project Manager will ensure that all specifications are being followed and that work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. The level of Project Manager is dependent on experience.
General Job Duties
- Provide direction/guidance/expertise to leads and functional teams assigned to a project (not direct reports)
- Act as project ScrumMaster to help team knock out impediments, facilitate standups, sprint planning, demos, & retrospectives
- Member of Program Management Office (PMO) assuring common approach for R&D projects
- Submit weekly Project Status Reports to keep management informed of progress(aka TALNA)
- Lead weekly Program Management Team (PMT) and engineering team technical meetings
- The PM will work with their project team to create the initial project Gantt schedules, maintain the schedule, and work with the team to successfully complete the project(s)
- Be an integral participant in the development of FDPs (Functional Development Plan), test plans, testing, debugging, and eventual release of new products and/or custom projects
- The PM is responsible for continually managing the project schedule, budget, and approves project purchase reqs./invoices
- Work with a program manager contributing content and presenting in quarterly reviews (QRVs) and new product development checkpoints as defined in a new product development lifecycle (PDLC)
- Work with a program manager contributing to Letters of Intent, Statement of Work, Requests for Proposal, and/or Beta agreements for custom projects
Travel Requirements:
- 10% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Toyota Automated Logistics)
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Eng., Electrical Eng., or equivalent technical degree
- Previous engineering project manager experience (2-5 years) delivering project(s) to release
- Technical background (e.g. 2-5 years hands-on technical/development engineering experience with R&D, New Product Development, Test/QA, or Sustaining teams)
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Exposure to project execution, Gantt schedules, software/hardware development lifecycles
- Strong English communication skills (both written and verbal) to provide project planning with sound technical trade-offs
- Willing to travel (up to 10%) if needed to support projects (e.g. Beta test, Product Launch)

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Agile, Hybrid Agile, or Waterfall development environments
- Experience/Knowledge in any of the following: Material Handling systems, Industrial Robots, Autonomous Systems, Conveyors, Embedded Control Systems (e.g. aviation, marine, locomotive, automotive, engine controls, construction equipment, printers, etc.)
- Experience using project management tools such as Jira, Smartsheet
- Experience interacting with customers, engineers/leads, managers, program managers
