JOB SUMMARY
The Receiving/Inventory Specialist is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting, and recording incoming shipments, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring proper storage and organization of materials and supplies. This role plays a key part in supporting warehouse efficiency, minimizing discrepancies, and maintaining accurate stock levels to support overall business operations.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments and deliveries.

Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices to ensure accuracy in quantities, descriptions, and condition of goods.

Record received materials into the inventory management system promptly and accurately.

Tag, label, and properly store all received items in designated inventory locations.

Assist in organizing warehouse storage areas for efficiency, safety, and accessibility.

Conduct regular cycle counts and participate in full physical inventory counts.

Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, damages, or discrepancies to the supervisor.

Coordinate with Purchasing, Accounting, and other departments to resolve receiving or inventory issues.

Maintain clean, safe, and organized receiving and storage areas in compliance with company policies and safety standards.

Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as required (if certified).

Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in supply chain, logistics, or inventory management is a plus.

1–3 years of experience in receiving, inventory control, or warehouse operations preferred.

Basic knowledge of inventory management systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.

Good communication and organizational skills.

Ability to lift and move materials up to [weight requirement, e.g., 50 lbs].

Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Proof of measles vaccination or updated titers prior to initial contact with animals.

Current results of TB testing or be tested prior to initial contact with animals. Annual tuberculosis screening is required of all employees.

Employees may occasionally need to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

Ability to operate facility equipment.
-
Visual acuity to handle potentially hazardous chemicals, cleaners, biologics (including but not limited to direct handling of human byproducts and viruses) and/or sharps.

Required to shower into barrier animal facilities and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in each area as described by SOPs.

Has the ability to withstand ambient temperatures which may exceed 90°F.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

This role is performed primarily in a warehouse/receiving environment.

Regular exposure to moving equipment, varying temperatures, and warehouse noise levels.

Requires standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
