JOB SUMMARY

The Receiving/Inventory Specialist is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting, and recording incoming shipments, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring proper storage and organization of materials and supplies. This role plays a key part in supporting warehouse efficiency, minimizing discrepancies, and maintaining accurate stock levels to support overall business operations.


DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments and deliveries.
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices to ensure accuracy in quantities, descriptions, and condition of goods.
  • Record received materials into the inventory management system promptly and accurately.
  • Tag, label, and properly store all received items in designated inventory locations.
  • Assist in organizing warehouse storage areas for efficiency, safety, and accessibility.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and participate in full physical inventory counts.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, damages, or discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Accounting, and other departments to resolve receiving or inventory issues.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized receiving and storage areas in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as required (if certified).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in supply chain, logistics, or inventory management is a plus.
  • 1–3 years of experience in receiving, inventory control, or warehouse operations preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to [weight requirement, e.g., 50 lbs].
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proof of measles vaccination or updated titers prior to initial contact with animals.
  • Current results of TB testing or be tested prior to initial contact with animals. Annual tuberculosis screening is required of all employees.
  • Employees may occasionally need to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment.
  • Visual acuity to handle potentially hazardous chemicals, cleaners, biologics (including but not limited to direct handling of human byproducts and viruses) and/or sharps.
  • Required to shower into barrier animal facilities and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in each area as described by SOPs.
  • Has the ability to withstand ambient temperatures which may exceed 90°F.
  • Personnel must be able to carry out the essential functions of this position with reasonable accommodation if disabled.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This role is performed primarily in a warehouse/receiving environment.
  • Regular exposure to moving equipment, varying temperatures, and warehouse noise levels.
  • Requires standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
