Recreation Services Administrator

Summary

The hiring salary for this position is $76,833.35 annually.

Charles County Government is seeking an experienced Recreation Services Administrator to perform recreation administrative work in directing assigned programs and services for the general public. Administrator will work with planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of recreation facilities and associated programs and services for the County.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees the management and delivery of services of the assigned recreation sections.
  • Analyze community recreational needs and develops additional programs and services.
  • Works with supervisors to develop, establish, and evaluate section goals.
  • Maintains demographic and statistical data. Prepares local, state, and federal reports.
  • Prepares and monitors budget and financial reports.
  • Negotiates and monitors contracts and agreements.
  • Research and monitors grants available for recreation services.
  • Provide community relations and customer service; mediates conflict and enforce organizational policies and procedures.
  • Develops and implements outreach and community information/promotional efforts.
  • Personnel management, training, evaluating, and directing staff in accordance with County Policies and Procedures; oversees volunteer service.
  • Maintains liaison with schools, parks, organizations and agencies.
  • Maintains data and related files and records and prepares reports.
  • Assists in the development of new recreation services.
  • Assists in the coordination of various County-wide programs and events.
  • Serves on boards and committees as assigned.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Four (4) years of progressively related experience in recreation or related field, with three (3) years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of concepts and practices of recreation management including facilities and sports leagues.
  • Knowledge of effective methods and practices of planning, developing and implementing recreational programs.
  • Knowledge of PC operations.
  • Ability to determine the specific tasks and assignments to be performed, independently handling new, unusual problems and deviations encountered in the work.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement recreational activities.
  • Ability to train, supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare related reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship.
  • Ability to performs administrative functions including budgeting, facilities management, purchasing, and personnel.

Additional Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary with frequent periods of light physical activity, and is performed in office surroundings. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, reach, hold grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing.

Pension Plan (Defined Benefit Retirement Plan) 401(a) Plan — Must work minimum 37.5 hrs/week. Participation is mandatory.
