Referrals Specialist I- Hybrid- Bilingual English/Spanish
Position Summary:
The Referrals Specialist I is a position that specializes in patient information management for Urban Health Plan. Candidates must be familiar with medical terminology and processes related to insurance verification. The referrals specialists assists in managing Referrals received from the organization into the Referrals Department box.
This position is hybrid- including both onsite and work-from-home weekly duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- 1-2 year of related experience in health care field with understanding of medical terminology and coding required.
- Comfortability working in an environment with high volume of calls.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Microsoft Office Proficient.
Key Duties:
- Inputs high volume of patient information and ancillary referrals for appointments via phone and fax.
- Reviews patient information for type of specialty, referral reason, ICD-10 diagnosis, medications, etc. Maintains electronic platforms/EMRs, including an not limited to ECW, EPIC, and EQUIPO.
- Assists with managing reception calls and providing referral action steps.
- Seeks prior authorization from patient insurance carriers.
- Responds in a timely manner to patient requests for information and provides appropriate follow-up and timely scheduling.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with confidentiality standards.
- Contacts external specialists and makes appointments for the patient.
Starting Compensation: Minimum $19.50 per hour; Maximum $19.50 per hour

Work Environment Type, Location, and Schedule:
Applicants must be comfortable working hybrid, based out of The Bronx and have availability to commit to a schedule of 40 hours per week, working Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Candidates must be open and available to working hybrid, working three days onsite and two days from home.
