Refuse Driver (Class 2) – Commercial Waste & Recycling Collections

About the Role

Bolton Brothers Ltd, a family based waste and recycling company located in Gt Blakenham, is seeking a dependable LGV Class 2 Refuse Driver to carry out commercial waste and recycling collections across Ipswich, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Bury St Edmunds, Colchester and surrounding villages.

You will collect wheelie bins of various sizes containing general waste and recyclables from a wide range of commercial customers such as bakeries, industrial units, retail outlets, food producers and business parks.

This is a singlehanded role with no loading assistant, requiring you to complete the full route independently. The work involves navigating tight access areas, narrow roads and limited turning space, demanding strong low speed manoeuvring skills‑handed role‑speed manoeuvring skills.

The role is arduous and physically demanding, involving frequent manual handling and walking—so a good fitness level is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

· Operate an HGV Class 2 refuse vehicle on commercial rounds across multiple towns and villages.

· Complete all collections independently (single‑handed).

· Collect, manoeuvre and empty wheelie bins of various sizes following safe handling procedures.

· Navigate tight access sites and restricted turning areas with care.

· Use a tablet device to record collection and route data.

· Customer signatures are not required; all noncompliance's must be accurately logged using our industry software.‑compliances

· Conduct daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle safety checks.

· Maintain hygiene and cleanliness inside the vehicle.

· Communicate professionally with customers when required.

· Report delays, incidents, defects or operational issues promptly to the Transport Manager.

What We’re Looking For:

· Full HGV Class 2 (LGV C) licence (maximum 6 points).

· Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.

· Confident working independently and managing busy rounds alone.

· Strong manoeuvring skills in tight or restricted areas.

· Physically fit – this is an arduous, hands on and active role requiring sustained physical effort.‑on and active role

· Comfortable using software applications using a mobile tablet device (training provided).

· Experience with Microsoft Teams is an advantage, but training will be provided.

· Clear written and spoken English.

· Waste industry experience beneficial but full training provided.

Hours: Monday–Friday, 05:30–15:30 (start time not negotiable)

Hourly Rate: £15.64 per hour (47.5 hours per week)

Overtime: £21.75 per hour

Weekly Wage: £742.90 per week

Holiday: 28 Days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays
