Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency.
- Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary instruments and materials, ensuring strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging using advanced equipment like 3D scanners, while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
- Manage patient records by updating medical histories, documenting procedures accurately in electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical documentation to assist in comprehensive patient evaluations, especially for pediatric dentistry cases.
- Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist—scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, post-treatment care instructions, and preventive practices to promote oral health awareness.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control standards and ensuring all equipment is sterilized properly.
- Assist with medical imaging procedures and record keeping for complex cases involving prosthodontics or endodontics.
- Support the dental team with administrative tasks related to medical coding and management of medical records for billing purposes.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic setting with familiarity in general dentistry procedures.
- Hands-on experience with EMR systems such as Open dental.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, infection control protocols, and aseptic technique to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
- Skilled in chairside assisting during various dental procedures including pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and other specialties.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and the use of X-ray equipment for diagnostic imaging.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics; familiarity with medical documentation and coding enhances your effectiveness.
