Duties

  • Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
  • Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical history, vital signs, and current dental conditions.
  • Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort.
  • Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper positioning and safety measures are followed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting treatment plans, patient responses, and procedural notes in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term dental health.
  • Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment.

Skills

  • Proficiency with dental office management software such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and documentation review processes.
  • Experience with pediatric dentistry and pediatrics-specific patient care approaches is highly desirable.
  • Skilled in chairside assisting with a focus on patient comfort, infection control, and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to measure vital signs accurately and recognize abnormal findings requiring further medical assessment.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Knowledge of medical coding for billing purposes related to dental procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining treatment procedures clearly and compassionately to patients of all ages.
