Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed health histories to determine individual care needs.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols, including IV infusions and medication management.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to document patient information meticulously and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with complex procedures such as catheterization, suturing, tube feeding, and ventilator management while maintaining aseptic technique.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection/processing and interpreting results to inform treatment plans.
- Provide patient education on health coaching, medication administration, pain management strategies, and discharge planning to promote recovery at home or in the community.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists in areas like cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), ophthalmology (including laser treatments), infectious disease care, trauma medicine at Level I & II trauma centers, and hospice & palliative medicine.
- Support patients across various settings—hospital inpatient units such as ICU or PICU, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities including nursing homes and assisted living communities—and work with individuals with disabilities or memory care needs.
Requirements
- Valid RN license in good standing with current state requirements.
- Proven experience in diverse clinical environments such as hospital medicine, emergency room (ER), ICU/CCU/PICU, outpatient clinics, or home care settings.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology principles, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical documentation standards.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate patient record management.
- Experience performing advanced skills such as IV insertion/infusion, phlebotomy, specimen collection/processing, airway management including ventilator support, and sterile processing techniques.
- Familiarity with specialized treatments including botulinum toxin therapy (for certain neurological or cosmetic indications), ostomy care, mammography procedures, esthetic laser treatments (if applicable), and DME (durable medical equipment).
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator care), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), behavioral health patients, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Critical thinking skills combined with excellent communication abilities to triage effectively in urgent situations and coordinate case management plans aligned with NCQA standards.
- Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and relevant specialty certifications are highly preferred.
