Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Charge Nurse to lead and coordinate patient care within our healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise across various specialties, including critical care, emergency medicine, geriatrics, and outpatient services. This role requires strong leadership abilities, comprehensive knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner, and familiarity with complex medical procedures including IV infusion, catheterization, suturing, and infection control. The Charge Nurse will serve as a vital link between medical staff and patients, ensuring adherence to hospital standards, HIPAA regulations, and quality care protocols in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Oversee daily nursing operations, ensuring high standards of patient care across departments such as ICU, Emergency Room, Medical-Surgical units, and Long-term Care facilities
- Coordinate patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations using advanced physiology knowledge
- Administer medications via injection or IV infusion while maintaining aseptic technique and proper documentation in EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks
- Lead emergency response efforts including airway management, trauma medicine protocols (Level I & II Trauma Center experience), and acute pain management
- Perform specialized procedures such as dialysis access management, ostomy care, gastrostomy tube feeding, spinal taps, and sonography as needed
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations and interpret ICD-9/ICD-10 coding for accurate medical records and billing purposes
- Supervise nursing staff during shifts, providing mentorship on best practices including infection control and HIPAA compliance
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and post-acute care strategies
- Ensure compliance with NCQA standards and other regulatory requirements for quality assurance in patient care delivery
- Maintain proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Meditech or NextGen to ensure precise medical documentation
Requirements
- Valid RN license with current state licensure; BSN preferred
- Extensive clinical experience in hospital settings such as ICU, Emergency Room, or Medical-Surgical units; Level I & II Trauma Center experience highly desirable
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, pharmacology related to medication administration and IV therapy
- Skilled in complex procedures such as suturing, catheterization (urinary & vascular), phlebotomy & specimen collection/processing
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), behavioral health patients & individuals with disabilities or developmental delays
- Ability to perform physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations accurately under pressure
- Knowledge of infection control practices and sterile processing techniques
- Excellent communication skills for effective triage & patient education; leadership capabilities for supervising staff during shifts
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in high-stress environments such as trauma centers or urgent care settings
