Join the Louisiana Department of Health as a Registered Nurse 4 in Region 4, serving Iberia and St. Martin Parish Health Units. Lead a programmatic service line, deliver public health nursing across clinical settings, and support parish-level operations, all while practicing within the full scope of the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act (LRS 37:911) and following LDH/OPH standards. The ideal candidate should have experience working with multiple electronic systems, data collection databases, and training platforms to support public health operations, including EMR, LINKS, Moodle, RedCap, STARLIMS, Quest, LEO, and Outlook email.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelor's degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A master's degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health.

Job Duties:

Job Duties and Other Information

  • Serves as a lead nurse in the Iberia Parish health unit. Will be expected to provide staffing support to St. Martin Parish Health Unit on a routine basis and travel to other Region 4 parish health units as needed at the request of the Nurse Supervisor A and/or the regional office leadership team.
  • Establishes short and long-term goals and planning for any OPH program, implementing new nursing programs, supporting existing programs, and working to increase efficiency and positive health outcomes within the assigned parishes.
  • Leads activities of specific clinics to ensure that patients receive needed services, program requirements are maintained and that appropriate follow up appointments or treatments are provided.
  • Assists the RN Supervisor A in the identification of community health status indicators. Assists the RN Supervisor A in the Performance, Planning, and Review of community health outcomes in the public health unit.
  • Interprets laboratory results for appropriate intervention, treatment, and follow up according to established protocols. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the practice of professional nursing. Provides nursing care for all parish programs such as WIC, Immunizations, Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Genetics.
  • Administers immunizations and other medication as appropriate, providing education on adverse reactions and care of reactions. Enters data of vaccines administered in the state wide LINKS (computerized system). Administers direct observation therapy to tuberculosis patients and contacts.
  • Attends seminars, workshops, staff meetings, in-service trainings and other continuing education programs as required in maintaining professional expertise and licensing requirements.
