Key Accountabilities

  • Participate in clinical supervision of student nurses, newly graduated nurses, newly hired experienced nurses, return to practice nurses and nurses undergoing cross-training or upskilling.

  • Participate in Performance Improvement Plans when required.

  • Share knowledge and skill with others, to improve patient care and services.

  • Ensure they are skilled, trained and competent before using any medical device.

  • Involve patients in their own healthcare and recovery through education, awareness and positive reinforcement.

Specific Responsibilities for this Role


Registered Nurse will:

  • Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.

  • Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.

  • Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.

  • Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.

  • Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.

  • Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care.

  • Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.

  • Record vital signs, recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities.

  • Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.

  • Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.

  • Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.

  • Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation

  • Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.

  • Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.

  • Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.

  • Provide wound care management.

  • Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.

  • Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission, transfer and discharge.

  • Competent with all the mandatory and unit specific competencies supported and assigned on Elsevier platform to ensure adherence to evidence Based practices.

  • Recognize early signs of deterioration and respond promptly to life-threatening conditions to prevent further complications.

  • Provide holistic, patient-centered care for both adult and pediatric patients with a range of conditions, specific to the long-term care setting.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and problem-solving skills when managing high-stress situations and patients with complex health profiles.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to prescribed protocols, including managing oral, intravenous, and other routes of administration.
  • Operate and monitor equipment such as cardiac monitors, ventilators and infusion pumps.
  • Support patients and their families in managing chronic conditions by providing education and assisting in self-management strategies, ensuring that both patients and their families are empowered with the knowledge and tools needed for effective care
  • Monitor patient conditions closely and make adjustments to care plans as needed, ensuring that interventions are timely and effective.
  • Collaborate with physicians, other nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless, comprehensive care delivery tailored to long-term care needs.
  • Communicate with patients and families about treatment plans, goals, and changes in care, fostering a therapeutic relationship and promoting understanding.
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols, ensuring that patients receive care in an environment that minimizes risks of infections and complications.
  • Assist in the implementation of emergency procedures when required (e.g., in cases of acute exacerbations of chronic illness or other emergent situations).
  • Provide wound care, assist with mobility, and address other activities of daily living (ADLs) as part of routine care.
  • Maintain sterile environments when performing procedures such as catheter insertion or dressing changes.
  • Coordinate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members for patient transfers, discharges, or referrals to other healthcare facilities, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Maintain and ensure emergency equipment is functional and that necessary supplies are well-stocked for both routine care and acute situations.
  • Mentor and train new staff in long-term care protocols, procedures, and best practices.
  • Engage in continuous emergency-specific training, including certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the department.

  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives in the LTCU, collaborating with the team to improve patient care processes and outcomes.

  • Perform clinical and procedural competencies as required and complete checklists on the Elsevier platform to stay current with departmental standards .

  • Participate in ongoing training, certifications, and competency evaluations to promote continuous professional growth and adhere to evidence-based practices.

Essential: the post holder must

  • Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.

  • Manage their own professional re-licensure.

  • Hold a valid American Heart Associatio n Basic Life Support Provider card.

  • Be willing to work across departments and On call when necessary.

  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)

DESIRABLE: The post holder should have :

  • Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.

  • Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.

  • Be able to communicate effectively in Arabic
