Float Pool – Maternal Child Health – Registered Nurse – Full time
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for implementing, directing and coordinating the care of patients through the use of the nursing process: assessment, planning implementation and evaluation. Included is recognition and treatment of the physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.

18. Functions as a virtual nurse as assigned which includes, but is not limited to, admissions, discharges, education, documentation through a virtual platform and working collaboratively with the bedside nursing staff.
mplements changes to programming devices in real time based off formalized protocol sets developed by the electrophysiologist. Performed by an RN under the supervision of a physician. RN will collaborate care with the Nurse Practitioner and Physician.
2. Consistently performs device clinic testing which includes: interrogation of device (remote or in person), programming of device and trans telephonic rhythm strip evaluation.
3. Demonstrates ability to use device programmer: hooking up patient, printing pacemaker settings, measure pacemaker function and calculate battery life.
4. Communicates with the cardiologists to revise follow-up visits or planned device replacement.
5. Establishes, develops and maintains liaison with device (vendor) representatives related to service recommendations, product recalls, and service bulletins/alerts.
6. Identifies potentially dangerous or life-threatening arrhythmias and notifies Cardiologist immediately.
7. Evaluates, recognizes/identifies and documents ECG or related abnormalities during diagnostic testing procedures or tracing reviews; promptly communicates abnormalities to physician by noting name, date and time. Documents communications in the patient record.
8. In Meditech, enters orders noting accuracy of information: correct patient name, correct medical record number, birth date, ordering physician, and account number. Edits orders to the correct status to bill procedure. Amends orders, as needed, to correct date, procedure, ordering physician and/or reason for exam.
9. Receives requests for scheduling of Cardiovascular Device procedures. Effectively uses Meditech Community Wide Scheduling system to complete requests received from patients, physician’s offices, nursing homes, and nursing floors. Schedules Cardiovascular Device procedures appropriately and accurately with attention to ordering physician and diagnosis in accordance with departmental guidelines. Instructs as appropriate on required preps for requested procedures.
Department: Family Birthing Services
1. Successfully completes the FBS Fetal Monitoring Pathway.
2. Provides care to the Family Birthing Services population in accordance with age-specific development.
3. Demonstrates accuracy and timely documentation in electronic health record.
4. Demonstrates the ability to provide care to the cesarean patient-preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively.
5. Demonstrates the ability to provide care to the ante partum patient.
6. Demonstrates the ability to provide care to the intrapartum patient.
7. Demonstrates the ability to provide care to the mother/baby couplet.
8. Demonstrates the ability to provide care to the neonate.
9. Demonstrates the ability to function effectively in the resource nurse role upon successful completion of orientation to the resource nurse role and functions.
10. Completes and maintains NRP program training.
11. Demonstrates the ability to perform newborn metabolic screening.
Department: Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Level II NICU
1. Provides care to the neonate admitted to the Level II NICU in accordance with age specific development.
2. Successfully completes Level II NICU competency checklist.
3. Demonstrates accurate observations of patient condition and timely documentation. Demonstrates ability to care for the critically ill newborn, late preterm or preterm neonate.
4. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on the patients, including incubators, ventilators, CPAP, I-STAT analyzer and medication and enteral feeding administration devices.
5. Demonstrates the ability to act rapidly and effectively during any emergency situation using principles of NRP to deliver care to the compromised neonate.
6. Collaborates with other members of the care team to establish priorities necessary to achieve expected outcomes.
7. Demonstrates competency in caring for umbilical venous/arterial, picc and peripheral intravenous therapy in the neonate.
8. Demonstrates proficiency in collecting lab specimens.
9. Completes and maintains certification in NRP training program.
10. Successfully completes and maintains iSTAT training as required.
11. Demonstrates the ability to provide care and emotional support to the neonate and family.
12. Assists mother in maintaining breastfeeding by providing assistance to LATCH and breastfeed and/or by providing necessary education and training for using electric or manual breast pump to maintain breast milk supply.
13. Instructs and educates patient’s family to participate in neonates care and planning for discharge.
14. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
15. Demonstrates the ability to provide care to the post-partum newborn and partner with FBS to coordinate care of the mother-baby couplet.
16. Demonstrates the ability to provide assistance to the neonatologist/advanced practitioner/Pediatrician as needed to care for the compromised neonate.
Department: Pediatric
1. Provides care to the patient admitted to Pediatrics in accordance with age specific development. Pediatric patient is defined as anyone under 18 years of age.
2. Successfully completes Pediatric competency checklist and maintains Pediatric specific yearly competencies.
3. Demonstrates accurate observations of patient condition and timely documentation.
4. Demonstrates ability to care for the acutely ill Pediatric patient.
5. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on the patients including continuous pulse oximeters, cardiac/apnea monitors, weight-based medication and enteral feeding administration devices, glucometers, and appropriate oxygen delivery devices.
6. Demonstrates the ability to recognize decline or change in condition and act rapidly and effectively during any emergency situation using principles of PALS.
7. Collaborates with other members of the care team to establish priorities necessary to achieve expected outcomes.
8. Demonstrates competency in starting and maintaining care for peripheral intravenous therapy in the Pediatric patient.
9. Demonstrates proficiency in collecting appropriate lab specimens.
10. Demonstrates appropriate pre/post operative patient management.
11. Completes and maintains certification in PALS training program.
12. Demonstrates the ability to provide care and emotional support to the pediatric patient and family.
13. Instructs and educates patient’s family to participate in care and planning for discharge.
