Your Day-to-Day (Mostly Asynchronous)

Primary Responsibilities:

Clinical Questions & Patient Support (60-70%):

• Review and respond to inbound clinical questions from patients via secure messaging
• Provide guidance on neurological symptoms and concerns using established protocols
• Triage patient concerns and determine appropriate escalation to physician
• Patient callback consultations during business hours

Prior Authorization & Insurance Support (30-40%):

• Assist with prior authorization documentation requiring clinical input
• Handle initial peer-to-peer calls with insurance reviewers for routine authorizations:
• EMG/NCS authorizations
• Standard neuroimaging (MRI brain/spine) with clear indications
• Medication authorizations (documenting failed step therapy, clinical necessity)
• Gather clinical documentation and communicate with payers
• Escalate complex cases or MD-to-MD requirements to physician
• Document all insurance interactions thoroughly

Additional Tasks:

• Clinical chart review and documentation
• Care coordination communications
• Brief team check-ins as needed

Scheduled flexibly within M-F, 9am-5pm PST based on practice needs and your availability.

What You Bring

Required:

• Active, unrestricted California RN license (must be current)
• Minimum 2 years RN experience (neurology experience strongly preferred)
• Availability during M-F business hours (9am-5pm PST) for 5-8 hours weekly
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable navigating insurance authorization processes
• Comfortable with technology: EMR systems, digital communication platforms
• Reliable internet connection and private workspace
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Professional phone demeanor

Preferred:

• Neurology, neurosurgery, stroke, or ICU experience
• Prior authorization or utilization review experience
• Case management or care coordination background
• Telephone triage experience
• Familiarity with common neurological conditions (migraines, epilepsy, MS, Parkinson's, neuropathy)
• Experience with neurological diagnostic testing (EMG, EEG, MRI interpretation)

Tech Comfort is Essential:

• Must be comfortable learning new digital platforms quickly
• Experience with EMR systems (we'll train on ours)
• Proficient with secure messaging, video calls, and digital documentation
• Comfortable with cloud-based workflow tools
