Monitor and approve all incoming medications for clients before they are logged in and clients are permitted to take them. If any incoming medication is not approved (i.e., Narcotic, Alcohol, etc), the Nurse is responsible for locking it away until it can be removed from Elmhurst appropriately.
Be responsible for the completion and accuracy of the monthly Medication Log for each medication of each client.
Continuously review each client’s medication log and medication ensuring client’s compliance with medication regimen. If the client is not in compliance, the nurse is responsible for notifying the client’s counselor or the clinical supervisor (special attention should be paid to psychoactive [psychiatric] medication and to medication for diabetes, hypertension, and seizure disorders.)
Serve as a primary consultant to EHI Clinical and Administrative staff concerning clients’ medical issues, problems, and/or concerns.
Perform a nursing assessment on all clients
Consult with clinical staff about the medical needs of clients
Administer oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intradermal medications by physician’s order
Provide basic nutritional counseling for clients with special dietary needs and referral to outside source when appropriate
Consult with the manager of the dietary department when needed
Make daily assessments of clients’ medical status when needed
Accurately document clients’ medical progress
Administer basic first aid within the educational scope (including CPR)
Other medical-related duties as deemed necessary to the function of the facility
Other duties as assigned
Current nursing licensure in the State of Michigan
Current CPR certification
Residential substance use treatment experience preferred
Ability to pass a LEIN background check
No active warrants; must be discharged from all sentences, including probation and parole, for a minimum of five (5) years
