Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview:

Brooks Surgery Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Per Diem Nurse to join our surgical team. This role requires flexibility and a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent clinical skills and attention to detail.

Schedule: Every Thursday (per-diem), ~4–10 hours depending on case load

Responsibilities:

• Assist in pre-operative and post-operative patient care
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and efficient workflows
• Monitor vital signs and administer medications as needed
• Maintain a sterile environment in compliance with surgical protocols
• Receive PACU handoff; verify procedure, airway status, lines, drains, and orders.
• Continuous monitoring (ECG, SpO₂, NIBP, ETCO₂ when indicated); document per protocol.
• Manage airway, oxygen therapy, nausea/vomiting, pain, and hemodynamics; titrate meds per orders/standing protocols.
• Conduct Aldrete scoring and advance recovery phases (Phase I → Phase II → discharge).
• Start/maintain IVs; administer IV/PO meds; manage fluid balance and glucose checks as ordered.
• Perform patient/family education; complete discharge criteria and instructions; arrange escort verification.
• Escalate changes in condition; initiate emergency response (code cart/defibrillator) when needed.
• Complete EMR documentation, incident reporting, med reconciliation, and controlled-substance counts.
• Maintain infection-prevention, medication safety, and HIPAA compliance.
• Assist pre-op checks and room turn-over as needed.

Requirements:

✅ Valid nursing license
✅ Experience in surgical or outpatient settings preferred
✅ Strong communication and organizational skills
✅ Availability for Thursdays and occasional Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays
✅ Preferred but not required: Proficiency in Japanese or Mandarin, or experience in surgery center recovery and circulating
