Overview

The Operation Theatre (OT) Registered Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. The nurse is responsible for pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative support while maintaining strict adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operation theatre by ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized and ready.
  • Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, consent forms, and medical history.
  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery.
  • Assist in transferring and positioning patients according to surgical requirements.
  • Ensure proper functioning of OT equipment and report any malfunctions immediately.

2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during procedures by providing sterile instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain an aseptic and sterile environment throughout the surgery.
  • Monitor patient vitals and provide critical support to the anesthetist when required.
  • Count surgical instruments, sponges, and consumables before, during, and after surgery.
  • Follow surgical safety checklists as per DOH/JCI standards.

3. Post-Operative Responsibilities

  • Assist in safe transfer of patients to the recovery room.
  • Provide postoperative care and monitoring until handover.
  • Document all nursing interventions, patient observations, and surgical details accurately.
  • Ensure proper disposal of medical waste and cleaning of OT as per infection control guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Valid DOH License or DOH Eligibility.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of OT experience in a hospital or day surgery center.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and infection control.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and safety-oriented approach.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: AED4,000.00 - AED6,000.00 per month
