River Hospital is seeking a per diem Registered Nurse to join our Ambulatory Surgical Unit Team as a Scrub Nurse.
Job purpose
A clinically competent registered, licensed nurse who provides immediate, specialized care with a multidisciplinary Ambulatory Surgery service provider team. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for the patient in ASU in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department. The nursing practice is flexible and diversified and includes a variety of nursing roles which incorporate both behavioral and technical components of nursing. The scope of practice includes that of a circulator, scrub and educator. Responsibilities include directing unlicensed employee activity, synthesizing patient information, assessment of patients, planning of care/intervention, teaching patients/family, implementation of treatment plan/MD orders, and evaluation of care rendered. The RN must effectively communicate and document data relevant to the care of the patient. In addition, the RN collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Participates in patient education, discharge planning and timely patient follow-up.
Qualifications
- Valid and current registration, NYS RN license
- Must possess the basic and advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification within the first 60 days of hire
- Preferred minimum of two years of peri-operative nursing experience.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development across the life span and the ability to use that knowledge to individualize the plan and delivery of care.

The employee will comply with all of the requirements outlined by the New York State Office of professions for the particular profession.
Working conditions and Physical requirements
Regular weekday shifts. OSHA Category A – potential for exposure to blood and other infectious body substances. Bending, lifting, standing, walking, must possess the physical ability to perform CPR.
