Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Nurse - Unit Manager to lead and coordinate nursing care within a busy healthcare environment. Duties
- Supervise and manage nursing staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure optimal team functioning.
- Coordinate patient care activities across multiple departments, including medical-surgical, ICU, emergency medicine, geriatrics, and behavioral health units.
- Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and medical documentation to maintain accuracy and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Facilitate discharge planning, family communication, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to promote seamless patient transitions.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and safety standards such as airway management and catheter care.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or Athenahealth for documentation, order entry, and data management.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives by analyzing clinical data, managing utilization review processes, and ensuring compliance with NCQA standards.
Skills
- Proven experience in critical care environments such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers; familiarity with Level II trauma center protocols is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation procedures.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated supervising experience in nurse management roles; ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Proficiency in working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (PICU), neonatal ventilator care, dementia care, Alzheimer’s/memory care, and individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities.
- Skilled in using EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and patient records management.
- Excellent patient assessment capabilities including physical examinations, specimen collection/processing, phlebotomy, IV insertion/infusion techniques, and sterile processing procedures.
- Knowledge of infection control practices, pain management strategies including acute pain management protocols, and advanced airway management techniques such as ventilator use.
- Ability to perform complex procedures such as cardiac catheterization preparation or spinal taps while maintaining sterile technique.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance and workers' compensation law; experience with discharge planning and case management is advantageous.
