Job Description
Job Scope:
Handles all obstetrics and gynecology work in emergency, labour room, O.T. and inpatient wards according to policies and procedures of the Department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Examines all the patients of OBS/GYN emergencies at the ER(Hospital's patients and those referred from outside doctors).
- Performs and master the first aid management of different OBS/GYN emergencies according to policies and procedures.
- Notifies the Consultant or Specialist on duty about the details of clinical data if the Patient needs admission and discusses with him the plan of management.
- Notifies the Consultant of Pediatrician about any high risk pregnancies before admission.
- Manages the women in labour referring the partograph.
- Notifies immediately any delay of progress in labour fetal problems or any other complications that may arise during labour, to the Consultant in charge in the patient’s file.
- Notifies the paediatrician about any high risk deliveries to attend before the delivery in a reasonable time.
- Notifies the anaesthesia department about the patient's desire for epidural anaesthesia.
- Registers the data of the outcome of labour in the patient’s file regarding the maternal and fetal outcome by the time and date.
- Examines (vaginally)all patients after closure of episiotomy to be sure no packs are left.
- Writes the treatment plan for all patients post-partum before transfer to the ward.
- Handover of labour cases between the two shifts in all clinical details.
- Communicates with O.T. staff to know the next day list of OBS/GYN and gynecology Operations during the afternoon shift.
- Assists in the operations either outside doctors or hospital consultants.
- Registers or checks that the operative details, histopath reports and treatment plan for every patient immediately post-operative.
- Performs a routine ward round for all patients knowing the in complaints and according to policy and procedures of individual case.
- Registers the clinical data and any change in treatment instructions in the patients file. (Writing the time and date).
- Do the ward round at least once in routine cases and according to special instructions in certain cases (according to policyand procedures)
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience
- MBBS and Master Degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Minimum 1 year of experience post Master Degree in relevant specialty
Job-Specific/Technical Skills - Good communication skills.
- Knowledge of Required Organizational practices/patient safety standards.
- Command over professional code of ethics, medical bylaws.
- Knowledge of evidence based Age specific/ Population specific patient care clinical guidelines accepted by the hospital.
- Culturally competent (Kuwaiti patients’ culture and beliefs).
- AHA certified Basic Life support provider.
