    Primary Purpose:
    Supervise and manage regular education bus drivers and bus assistants. (approx. 200 employees) Serve as the department liaison to all campuses for regular route student needs.

    Qualifications/Skills:

    Education/Certification:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Five (5) years of experience in a Transportation industry.
    • Obtain and maintain a valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B- CDL) and keep all other required licenses, permits, and certificates active.
    • Ability to effectively direct and manage personnel.
    • Effective and professional organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to read and understand documents including policies, etc.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft word, access and excel.
    • Proficient map reading skills.
    • Effectively manage student behavior.
    • Acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety and by SBISD as well as any other local, state and federal requirements.
    • Complete and pass the Texas School Bus Driver's Course, allied courses and examinations. Eligible for coverage under the district's vehicle insurance program.
    • Certification of good health as required by the State of Texas and signed by a licensed physician. Ability to pass department physical dexterity test. Must have an interest in the education and welfare of children.

    Major Duties and
    Responsibilities:

    Records and Reports:

    • Assist with supervision of Regular and Special Needs Bus Driver and Bus Assistants as needed.
    • Provide bus drivers and bus assistants with accurate and up-to-date bus run/route information to include an accurate and current list of eligible students at each stop.
    • Initialize bus stops, clusters to form bus run and combine to form bus routes.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date maps for each school campus using guidelines adopted by school administration/Board of Education.
    • Provide reports/information to other departments relative to attendance boundaries and busing of students.
    • Compile all district accidents and chair the district Accident Review Board.
    • Compile route descriptions for annual TEA reports.

    Clerical Support:

    • Coordinate all bus stops and bus route information with drivers, dispatchers, and school administration.
    • Assist Dispatchers with the telephone and radio dispatch duties as needed.

    Other:

    • Drive school bus or serve as a Bus Assistant on an as needed basis.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory
    Responsibilities:
    Manage regular route employees and special needs employees as needed.

    Equipment Used:
    Computer and various office equipment.

    • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
    • Work with frequent interruptions.
    • Able to sustain occasional prolonged irregular hours
    • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

    Physical Demands:

    • Continual standing, walking, pushing and pulling.
    • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying.

    Environmental Factors:

    • Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
