Under the general and direct supervision of the PM&R Director, Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant or supervisor, to prepare equipment for treatment; to perform housekeeping duties of the department/facility; to assist the Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistants, Speech/Language pathologist, Hand Therapist in selected procedures; to perform other diverse duties as requested or required.
- Adequately cleans, sterilizes and prepares whirlpools as necessary and uses appropriate aseptic technique in assisting staff with dressing changes.
- Properly prepares cold and hot packs for professional staff.
- Safely and proficiently assists patients with appropriate level of assistance and with good body mechanics in transfers and bed level activities as directed by professional/para professional staff.
- Safely and proficiently trains patients in the proper use of ambulatory devices on level surfaces and stairs.
- Safely and proficiently supervises patients on exercise equipment as directed/supervised by professional/para professional staff.
- Transports patients safely and proficiently to/from the PM&R Division and is capable of safely and proficiently using a patient lifting device.
- Safely and proficiently sets up C.P.M. Unit as directed/supervised by professional/para professional staff.
- Adheres to P&P on LEP patients and use of restraints.
- Performs housekeeping duties of the department/facility and other diverse duties as requested or required such as the safe transfer and transportation of patients to/from the treatment areas in physical therapy when transporters are unavailable to do so.
- Cleans, sterilizes and prepares whirlpools as directed by professional staff and assist staff with dressing changes
- Maintains daily logs on temperature controlled modalities and insures proper periodic cleaning schedule is adhered to and documented in log book.
- Maintains adequate inventory of all supplies & forms, & keeps storage areas neat & orderly.
- Assists therapist/assistants in selected procedures, according to their directions, to aid in the patient care in the department/facility.
- Prepares equipment for patient treatments as requested by the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant/Hand Therapist/Speech/Language Pathologist, to relieve the Therapist/Assistant to perform his/her professional duties.
- Performs daily cleaning of all mats, equipment, ambulatory devices etc.
- Safely trains patients in use of ambulatory devices on level surfaces and stairs as directed by professional staff.
- Participates in Q.I./P.I. Projects as appropriate to job functions.
- Aids in the treatment, care and safety of patients regardless of race, creed, age (e.g., infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, elderly, ages 0-120 years), gender, or disability without bias or prejudice.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years job-related experience.
- Desired (not required) criteria include: Some experience in hospital, or similar PM&R setting, preferred; Spanish speaking preferred; Rehab Aide certificate preferred.
- The level of job related experience can be waived if a certification as a rehabilitation aide is obtained &/or a particular candidate demonstrates a proficiency for learning quickly.
