Position Title: Release Manager
Location: Remote (In the U.S)

POSITION SUMMARY


We are seeking a Release Manager to be responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of a strategic program with the Department of Veterans Affairs covering over millions of veteran users. This role will involve working with cross-functional teams, managing resources, mitigating risks, and ensuring the successful delivery of programs aligned with business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a proven track record of managing complex programs from inception to completion.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define release scope with product owners and development teams
  • Manage release timelines, milestones, and code freeze dates
  • Ensure documentation requirementsmeet release criteria
  • Coordinate testing to ensure release isready for deployment
  • Prepare rollback plans andvalidatethe plan with the development team
  • Initiatereleasebuild and verify buildartifacts
  • Communicate release statusand reportto stakeholdersregardingdeployment and stability

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related scientific/technical discipline. An additional 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the required education.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing software, hardware, or system component releases.
  • Significant experience with VA Enterprise Cloud (AWS GovCloud + Azure Gov) and ServiceNow ITSM are required
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple releases concurrently
  • Proven track record coordinating across cross-functional teams including QA, Development, Packaging, and Hardware
  • Attention to detail in documenting release schedules, dependencies, and risk assessments
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder coordination and status reporting
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving scheduling conflicts or risks that may impact release delivery
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines effectively
  • Familiarity with release automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and refine release governance and standard operating procedures
  • Experience with enterprise change management and version control systems
  • Preferred:
  • ITIL Foundation or higher (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)
  • Certified Release Manager (CRM)
  • PMP (Project Management Professional)
  • SAFeRelease Train Engineer (RTE)
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
