Remote - Freelance IT Architect & Developer – End-to-End Logistics (Web) Platform

About Us

We’re a Netherlands-based logistics & customs group (brokerage, fiscal representation, bonded warehousing, transport). We want one web platform that connects the entire shipment flow.

The Challenge

Build a secure, scalable web application that unifies our day-to-day operations and gives customers real-time visibility and self-service.

What you’ll build

• Customer Portal: login, shipment tracking (MRN/CMR), document vault (invoices, PoDs, KYC/PoA), messaging, self-service forms.
• Order Module: RFQs, rate cards, quotes → orders, versioning, approvals.
• Customs & VAT Workflow: IM4/IM7/T1 flows, LFR processes, Article 23/138 handling, EORI/VAT checks, CBS/ICP/Intrastat support, document generation.
• Transport Management (TMS-lite): job planning, carrier assignments, milestones, geoupdates, exceptions & alerts.
• Docs & Compliance: KYC intake, PoA, audit trail, four-eyes checks, SLA timers, task queues.
• Integrations: Portbase and carrier APIs, email-to-case, file sync (OneDrive/SharePoint), potential links with customs/ERP/WMS tools.
• Analytics: operational dashboards, KPIs, exportable reports.

Your responsibilities

• Own the architecture & development of the web platform (MVP → v1 → scale).
• Model data and workflows across tenders, customs, VAT, transport, and docs.
• Design role-based access, audit logs, and robust error handling.
• Implement APIs/integrations (REST/GraphQL; EDI/EDIFACT useful).
• Set up CI/CD, environments, monitoring, and documentation.
• Collaborate with our operations team to translate rules into automations.

Nice stack directions (open to your proposal)

• Frontend: React/Next.js (TypeScript), form systems, data grids.
• Backend: Node.js/NestJS or .NET or Python (FastAPI/Django).
• DB: PostgreSQL (with migrations), Redis cache, message queue (e.g., RabbitMQ).
• Infra: Docker, Azure/AWS, IaC (Terraform), CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• Security: OAuth/OIDC/SSO, OWASP best practices, GDPR-minded design.

Helpful domain experience

• Logistics/transport, TMS/WMS, Portbase or similar port community systems.
• EU customs & VAT flows (IM7, T1, LFR, MRN/CMR, Intrastat/CBS).
• Document automation (PDF/labels), webhook/event-driven integrations.
