This position will be filled at either the 1, 2, or 3 level, depending on the applicant's qualifications and job experience.

What You Will Be Doing:

Your role as a Research Analyst is crucial to supporting public health initiatives that drive meaningful change. You'll collect, analyze, and report data to government agencies, policymakers, researchers, and health facilities to help shape public health policies and practices. As a dedicated research professional, you'll work closely with data providers to support the Alaska Electronic Vital Records System and the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program. Your work will ensure data quality and integrity, involving the running of reports, utilizing SAS and R for analysis, and creating research products to disseminate findings. You'll respond to data requests and perform other research and analysis projects independently or under the guidance of the Research Unit supervisor.

The mission of the Division of Public Health is to protect and promote the health of Alaskans. As a member of the HAVRS team, you will have the opportunity to make important contributions to this mission and make a difference in improving the health and well-being of Alaskans. The Alaska Health Analytics and Vital Records Section (HAVRS) is chiefly responsible for the administration of:

1. The Alaska Electronic Vital Records System (EVRS), which collects records of birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce, adoption, and induced termination.

2. The Alaska Health Facilities Data Reporting (HFDR) program, which collects records of inpatient and outpatient discharges.

3. The Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) program, which collects records of newly diagnosed cases of cancer.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This is an in-person position in Juneau, Alaska, at the Bureau of Vital Statistics office building located at 5441 Commercial Blvd. The location offers free parking and is a 0.3-mile (5-minute) walk from public transportation. Analysts are assigned a personal cubicle near other staff members of the Research Unit. The nearby area includes the Lemon Creek hiking trail and businesses such as Costco, the Alaskan Brewing Company brewery and tasting room, and the Breeze In Bakery and Deli.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1, 2, or 3 levels, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and the required training, provided the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the higher job class and receives final approval from the supervisor.
