Role Overview
The Research Analyst I plays a pivotal role in building, refining, and expanding the data products and insights that power Convergence’s solutions. You’ll engage directly with data pipelines, industry research, product development, and cross-functional projects that support client delivery, sales, technology, and M&A initiatives.
This is not a narrow or repetitive role. We are looking for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys autonomy, and approaches challenges with creativity and persistence. Ideal candidates are self-starters who can take a project from concept to execution with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Lifecycle Project Ownership:
- Take responsibility for projects from initial scoping and data acquisition through analysis, interpretation, delivery, and documentation.
Data Engineering & Analytics:
- Collect, clean, and transform financial and operational data using SQL, Python, Java, or related tools.
- Build queries, pipelines, and repeatable workflows that improve data quality and operational efficiency.
- Use advanced Excel functions for deep-dive analytics and reporting.
Autonomous Problem Solving:
- Identify issues, inefficiencies, or gaps in data or processes, and propose solutions proactively.
- Develop creative, resourceful approaches to dataset challenges, research tasks, and client questions.
Industry & Market Research:
- Conduct research across the asset management ecosystem and synthesize insights that guide product development and client decision-making.
- Support M&A research and due diligence activities.
Insight Generation & Storytelling:
- Interpret complex datasets and communicate insights clearly, including recommendations and potential client actions.
- Produce high-quality reports, dashboards, and summaries.
Innovation & Product Thinking:
- Participate in brainstorming, prototype new features, and contribute ideas for new research methodologies, products, and automation opportunities.
- Bring forward new concepts, don’t wait to be asked.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with Sales, Client Management, Technology, and Product teams to provide analytical support and subject-matter insights.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or related discipline; OR 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding, or strong interest in developing expertise, in the asset management industry and its ecosystem.
- 1+ years SQL experience (Microsoft SQL Server or similar).
- 1+ years programming experience in Python, Java, or C++.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, pivot tables, array formulas, etc.).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or progress toward the CFA® designation.
- Prior experience in Investment Operations, Risk Measurement, Research, or Data-Driven Product Work.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts, statistical analysis, or data science workflows.
