Job Overview

The Research Assistant (RA), Department of Family Medicine - Georgetown University, supports the conduct of a large, multi-site, randomized controlled trial. Main responsibilities center on the recruitment and enrollment of patients into the study, including outreach and providing information about the study, identifying and prescreening individuals, obtaining informed consent, collecting questionnaires and data, and following patients for the duration of their participation (approximately 2-4 weeks). Most activities will occur at
primary and urgent care offices in the greater metro area.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Recruit, enroll, retain, facilitate informed consent with study participants and area practices
  • Day-to-day activities that support the progress of the study, including but not limited to: data collection and entry; quality review, management of supplies; training; schedules and travel logistics; clinic coverage
  • Adhere to the approved study protocol, standard policies and operating procedures, Good Clinical
  • Practice, and other applicable guidelines and regulations
  • Frequent travel to local area clinics; RA will track expenses and comply with GU and funding agency’s cost principles and expense policies
Work Interactions

Running a clinical trial is a time intensive endeavor as it requires close interactions with patients, practicing clinicians, subcontractors and multiple university personnel. The RA will work closely with the PC to respond to emails, phone calls and meetings. The RA will need to have a personal phone that GU covers expenses or a GU issued cell phone. Activities performed by the RA will directly support the progress of the projects. RA may need training on various GU applications, such as Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap), to record project activities. The RA serves as the main study contact at a number of primary and urgent care offices clinics, with diverse patient populations and previous research experience. Strong interprofessional skills and ability to adapt to different clinic workflows and patients are essential. On occasion, RA should be able to accommodate alternative working hours during high-volume periods, seasonal patterns of respiratory illness, student breaks, and when necessary to minimize barriers to participation. Since the majority of recruitment activities will be conducted off-campus, the RA will need to exercise discretion and independent judgment, especially when scheduling and interacting with clinic personnel.
The RA will report directly to the PC and PI. The RA will frequently interact with other members of the research team, site teams and the data coordinating center (DCC) at MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI). The RA will attend bi-weekly team and project meetings, and educational/training on topics in clinical research.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in health or science-related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required
  • Upon hire, RA will be required to complete and maintain the required training certifications for research study personnel, including human subjects protection, HIPAA and ICH Good Clinical Practice.
  • Knowledge of research methods is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Must be comfortable working independently and in the community

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
