The base pay scale for this position is $23.35 - $35.51. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.Job Start Date: May 18, 2026
Location: Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City
Department: Orthopedic Trauma and Metabolic Bone Disease
Hours per week: 35
Pay: Roughly $43,261 annually ($23.77/hour)
We are looking for a research assistant to work with Joseph Lane, MD and Jeri Nieves, PhD as a clinical research assistant and research coordinator on various studies in the realm of metabolic bone disease.
The successful applicant must be available for at least a FULL 24 months.
Depending on which studies are active, specific duties can include:
Recruit patients into research protocols
Obtain consent from study participants
Maintain compliance with Institutional Review Boards (IRB)
Administer questionnaires to patients in person, by mail, and by phone
Act as a liaison between physicians, physician’s office staff, and study participants
Coordinate patient visits with physician schedules
Be a contact person for patients to call regarding questions regarding study protocols
Create case report forms for each study
Create REDCap database/data entry into REDCap
Data entry into an electronic database
Obtain tissue samples as required
Help create abstracts, posters, and PowerPoint presentations of study results
Assist in grant submission and creation of study protocols
Occasionally scribe for Dr. Lane during patient visits
Assist with small animal (i.e. mice) surgeries, monitor animals, and perform biomechanical analyses such as gait and range of motion testing
Necessary Skills:
Bachelor's degree
Computer literate: Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry
Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills
Detail oriented and organized
Excellent writing skills
The successful applicant for the position of Research Assistant will be an organized individual who is able to conduct clinical research studies. He or she will be flexible, as the job description may evolve as studies progress. The Research Assistant will have access to the medical records of patients and should appreciate this privilege, maintaining strict confidentiality with all patient medical data. The Research Assistant will also have good interpersonal skills, as he or she will be interfacing directly with patients on a routine basis. The applicant must be available on site at the hospital. Dr. Lane and Dr. Nieves would like an applicant who has aspirations in the medical field.
