Research Assistant in Microbiology (Technician)

The candidate is expected to contribute to the research entitled Exploring the effectiveness of Rhazya stricta alkaloids as natural antimicrobial agents in Oman.

To assist the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project in achieving the aims and objectives of the research, including:

• Assist in the field collection of plant samples from multiple sites across Oman.
• Extraction of the alkaloid compound from the plant extract.
• Characterization of the extracted alkaloids using various analytical techniques,
• Evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of the extracted alkaloids against various microorganisms
• Help in maintaining lab cleanliness, equipment, and documentation required for research reports.

• Experience in collecting plant samples from natural habitats.
• Strong knowledge of extraction and isolation of plant compounds.
• Background in chromatography techniques, including HPLC, TLC, and column chromatography, with the ability to interpret results accurately.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with microbial cultures and antimicrobial assays, including MIC, MBC, agar diffusion, and broth dilution methods.
• Proficient in sterile laboratory techniques and safe handling of microorganisms.

The candidate must have the following skills and attributes:

• Ability to develop and maintain a research program and to publish in international journals.
• Excellent background in biology laboratory techniques.
• Competence in IT skills.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership in outreach activities.

Technician with a bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a closely related field.
