JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Technician 2 assists in the advancement of the clinical and research application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique. Towards this, the work in the lab is centered on human studies in healthy patients and patients with neurological disorders. This position assists in developing a multi-center data repository that involves the extraction of data collected across behavioral, imaging, clinical, demographic, interventions and treatment outcomes.


  • Assists in all phases of study design and creation of the multi-center data repository related to language mapping procedures in patients with epilepsy or brain tumors.
  • Extracts data collected across behavioral, imaging, clinical, demographic, interventions and treatment outcomes.
  • Maintains regulatory documentation from all participating institutions.
  • Extracts and analyzes the data from the multi-center database
  • Maintains accurate dated records of experiments and protocols.
  • Assists the PI with publication of data, grant and manuscript writing, and preparation of proposals as requested or required.
  • Performs research procedures to include subject screening, consenting, setup and completing TMS, MRI, speech and voice and other studies, monitoring for adverse events, and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct literature searches and systematic reviews.
  • Assists the PI and other laboratory personnel with quality control and data collection of all study-related procedures.
  • Maintains efficient laboratory operation and departmental equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Physical Sciences, or a related field of study. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of biological sciences, human neuroscience, and psychology.
  • Skills in proper research methodology, keeping orderly up-to-date and accurate laboratory records, maintaining organization, and exercising ethical practices.
  • Skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to convey information accurately.
  • Computer skills, particularly with all software in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to execute laboratory safety procedures.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
