Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

1. Conduct Advanced Research

  • Investigate climate change impacts on the marine ecosystem of Qatar, particularly related to temperature rise, sea-level changes, marine heatwaves, pollution, and acidification.

  • Identify the sources, fate, and transport pathways of marine pollutants within Qatar’s EEZ.

  • Examine the occurrence, distribution, and toxicity of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and emerging contaminants across different environmental matrices.

  • Assess how natural and anthropogenic stressors affect key marine habitats such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds.

2. Develop Monitoring and Predictive Tools

  • Contribute to the creation of an operational forecasting system for the Arabian Gulf / Qatar EEZ that integrates AI-based prediction tools with numerical ocean models.

  • Investigate summer hypoxia, mesoscale eddies, biogeochemical interactions, and circulation patterns in the Arabian Gulf.

3. Collaborate and Contribute to ESC Activities

  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams of marine scientists.

  • Participate in research cruises, fieldwork campaigns, and national environmental monitoring programs.

  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and prepare competitive research proposals, reports, and scientific deliverables.

This position directly contributes to Qatar University’s mission to advance environmental knowledge, protect marine resources, and support national sustainability strategies. The successful candidate will play a key role in generating actionable scientific insights that guide policy, conservation initiatives, and marine resource management in Qatar and the wider Arabian Gulf region.


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physical Oceanography or Chemical Oceanography.

  • Demonstrated expertise in coastal processes, marine pollution, and climate-change impacts on marine ecosystems.

  • Minimum 10 years of post-doctoral research experience.

  • Strong publication record in Q1, internationally recognized journals.
