The intern will assist in a Clemson University molecular genetics and gene editing laboratory focused on plant genetics, transformation, and tissue culture. Working alongside postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and senior scientists, the student will gain hands-on exposure to basic laboratory techniques, plant care, sterile culture practices, and experimental workflows. This position is designed to provide an early research experience for a high-school age student interested in biology, biotechnology, genetics, or agriculture. The intern will be expected to follow laboratory safety procedures, maintain careful attention to detail, and contribute to a collaborative research environment. Other duties as assigned.
25% - Essential - Assist laboratory personnel with plant tissue culture activities, including media preparation, sterile transfers, and maintenance of plant cultures.
25% - Essential - Support plant genetic transformation experiments by helping prepare materials, organize samples, and monitor plant growth and regeneration.
25% - Essential - Help care for plants in the laboratory, growth chamber, or greenhouse, including watering, labeling, and routine observation.
25% - Essential - Maintain accurate records of experimental materials, sample labels, plant lines, and basic observations under supervision.

Anticipated Hourly Rate: $12.00
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
