Established within the School of Computer Science, LTI pioneers innovative approaches to understanding, processing, and generating human language in both written and spoken forms.</p><p></p><p>LTI is seeking a<b> Research Associate</b> to assist with working on our ongoing research project examining the safety of tool-using AI agents, exploring how to make AI agents safer using on-the-fly mitigation methods. Ultimately, this will involve conducting the research and writing it up as an academic paper.</p><p></p><p><b>Core Responsibilities</b></p><ul><li>Help with designing and implementing evaluation frameworks to assess the safety and alignment of autonomous AI systems.</li><li>Analyze model behavior in open-ended environments and document safety implications.</li><li>Help co-author and contribute formal research papers for publication in AI safety and NLP venues.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul><p></p><p>Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University.
