To build upon a track record of growth and success, we are looking to add a Research Chemist to join our team in Dexter, MI. The Research Chemist will maintain responsibility in performing chemical research independently and providing process support for the designated product line for Trucent's oleochemical business space. In addition to developing/implementing and running analytical protocols in support of the lab research activities, this position will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing laboratory experiments related to chemical synthesis and product separations/purifications.

POSITION FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:

Conduct and monitor chemical experiments in laboratory and assist scale-up and/or commercial operations.

Develop new separation and purification methods for the oleochemical industry.

Develop and/or implement analytical methods in support of the lab's research activities.
-
Actively participate in organic synthesis and workup for production of oleochemicals.

Set up and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
-
Perform analytical tests on products and intermediates to ensure that they meet the desired specifications during the laboratory development, scale-up and commercial testing stages.

Document and cure laboratory analysis results in detailed databases.

Prepare detailed reports and presentations about the research, including literature review, research methods, data analysis, results, and conclusions.

Maintain an organized laboratory notebook and manage an electronic database of historical research results.

Work under guidance of a team of experienced scientists and engineers.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry required (minimum)
Experience:
-
Up to 3 years relevant experience in a Process Chemistry lab preferred but not required. Experience in a university lab as a student employee is valuable.
Skills and Abilities (May be representative but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position):

Knowledge of good laboratory practices.

Knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and related lab techniques.

Experience in using analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC-FID, GC-MS, ICP-OES) is preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel and ability to learn new software tools quickly.

Experience in using statistical design of experiments for optimization of processing conditions.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
