Research Development Manager

Position Summary:

Beauty Garage seeks an experienced and innovative R&D Manager to lead the formulation and development of high-performance hair care products — including shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and treatments. This hands-on leadership role combines technical expertise, innovation, and team management, guiding projects from concept to commercialization. The ideal candidate will have strong formulation science experience, problem-solving skills, and the ability to drive product innovation, quality, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with Marketing, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and QA teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Formulation & Development

Lead the research, formulation, and development of innovative hair cosmetic products (shampoos, conditioners, masks, serums, styling products, etc.)

Evaluate and select appropriate raw materials and active ingredients based on performance, stability, safety, and regulatory guidelines

Create lab-scale prototypes and optimize formulations through iterative testing and feedback

2. Team Leadership & Project Management

Supervise, mentor, and train a team of junior chemists and lab technicians

Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of R&D milestones

Foster a collaborative and innovation-driven team environment

3. Stability Testing & Quality Control

Design and execute comprehensive stability and compatibility testing across different packaging formats and storage conditions

Analyze formulation performance over time and troubleshoot any issues (e.g., separation, discoloration, texture changes)

Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental work and results

4. Technical Transfer & Manufacturing Support

Oversee the scale-up of formulations from lab to pilot and full-scale production

Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure seamless tech transfer and consistent batch quality

Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for formulation and testing processes

5. Regulatory & Documentation

Ensure all products and ingredients meet relevant cosmetic regulations (e.g., FDA, EU Cosmetic Regulation, BIS standards)

Manage documentation for raw materials, formulas, and product testing

Provide technical support for claims substantiation, safety assessments, and regulatory submissions

6. Innovation & Strategic Input

Stay updated on industry trends, new ingredient technologies, and regulatory changes

Provide strategic input for product pipeline planning and innovation roadmaps

Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and raw material manufacturers to access the latest ingredient innovations
