JOB SUMMARY:


Aids in carrying out the activities of our CDC DMA-PRIME center grant- needs to be familiar with both analytic skill sets (statistical analysis, data management) and knowledge of infectious diseases. Requires the analytic expertise to handle large and complex data sets, and has both the experience and interest in infectious disease research. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:


50% - Essential - Design & Implementation:
Designs, implements, and validates constraint-aware and knowledge-injected machine learning models for disease prediction and healthcare analytics.Develops robust and interpretable models that align with real-world epidemiological patterns. Translates conceptual frameworks into deployable analytical tools that can inform public health decision-making. Applies domain constraints to improve model stability, reliability, and fairness across diverse populations.

20% - Essential - Datasets:
Curates, pre-processes, and integrates multimodal datasets (e.g., surveillance, vaccination, social media) to support modeling and interpretation efforts. Develops and documents ETL pipelines for integrating data from heterogeneous sources. Conducts quality assurance, feature engineering, and metadata harmonization to ensure the reproducibility and interpretability of AI models.

20% - Essential - Collaboration Efforts:
Works closely with interdisciplinary teams across Clemson, MUSC, and partner institutions to support ongoing projects and ensure scientific rigor. Participates in multi-institutional research meetings, contribute to manuscript and grant development, and coordinate joint data and model sharing efforts. Engages in discussions that connect data-driven insights with public health implications and operational relevance.

10% - Essential - Writing, Publishing & Presentation:
Writes and publishes papers. Assists in preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, contributes to technical documentation, and presents research progress at professional meetings and internal seminars.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education - 1st Bachelor's Degree - computer science, public health, statistics or similar field.
Work Exp 2+ years with experience in research

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


Education - 1st Master's Degree - computer science, public health, statistics or similar field.

Standard Hrs: 26 per week; Monday-Friday

COMPENSATION INFORMATION


Band: 05 (expected range $19.11/hour - $27.00/hour)


Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
