Department Summary
Ohio University has a long-standing research project to develop methods for estimating manufacturing costs and to implement those methods in software. The research engineer to support this project will be responsible for analyzing data provided by the research sponsor and using the results of this analysis to improve the software. The research engineer will also be responsible for providing support to users of the software based on knowledge of the software and personal experience as a user. User support will also be provided by developing additional documentation for reference by users at the research sponsor.
Responsibilities include:
1. Review manufacturing data from the prior year to identify changes in designs, costs, and other relevant parameters, then update software databases to reflect the changes.
2. Analyze data provided by the research sponsor to improve cost estimating methods and develop cost estimating methods for new processes and designs.
3. Investigate user issues, then prepare and deliver and explain on how to resolve the issues or define bugs fixes needed to resolve the issues.
4. Create formal documentation for users that explains how to utilize features of the software.

Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a related field.
At least five years of related experience.
